See you in December :)

The day has almost arrived.

I suppose this day has kind of being one that I have changed my opinion about countless times over the past three months. First I was excited, then nervous, then plain right terrified, and now chronically excited.

Tomorrow I head out on the two day trip to get to Balgo, leaving behind family, friends and pets to fend for themselves for nine months.

Five days ago, I was honestly dreading this day. I was terrified of the prospect of launching myself into a totally new and different community, practically in the middle of no-where. I feared not fitting in, being homesick and mostly importantly, chronically failing with the cooking and cleaning; a very real fear. But gelling so well with my roomies, Alejandro and Henry makes me realise that I'm not alone in this journey. With me are two guys going through exactly the same thing. And supporting us are the most amazing group of La Sallian Brothers, a school of beautiful staff and students and a warm and welcoming town.

Reaching this stage, I realise that fear is normal. It has made me make sure I pack all the right things, have my bag under the 15kg allowance of the mail plane (seriously? 15kgs?!) And now I accept, I welcome the replacement of fear with excitement. Because this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I am so lucky to be apart of it.

So farewell for now. The next post will really be in the middle of no-where!

I Admit!

Beginning a blog was never really on my list of things to do. I remember watching Julie and Julia, that movie with Meryl Streep and Amy Adams where the latters character blogs her experiences cooking her way through 500 recipes and thinking 'as if anyone would be interested in what I have to say!!' But finally, with a new adventure peeking around the corner of my only recently adult life (wooo for being 18!) I think that living in the middle of no-where for 10 months warrants as pretty intersting. Having lived in Perth for my whole life, I can hardly imagine what I'm in for in the tiny town of Balgo Hills, population 400. For someone who likes to shop, I think the one shop/post office/bank may be a little less than what I'm used to, but I think my bank balance would apprecaite a bit of a break for a year. And being a winter person, I don't know how to appreciate the steamy desert weather, where the mercury cracking 40 degrees is nothing new.

But whatever will be, will be. It's not long now until I say goodbye to Perth for the rest of the year. Sydney beckons! And Balgo is just around the corner of that.

Life is pretty sweet right now!
