This weekend I have really gone above and beyond the life of a housewife. Even though I am totally not a housewife because a, I'm not married and b, I refuse to accept the typical stereotype of a woman because it is completely sexist, but if I did and I was on Desperate Housewives, I would be the best. Because this weekend, I have truly being awesome! I have;
- Vacuumed the whole house.
- Mopped all the floors.
- Written a shopping list.
- Sent the boys out to the shops to get the food (whipped!).
- Cooked potato bake and damper for dinner at the parish house.
- Done three loads of washing.
- Taken the washing off the line in the rain and hung it over the dining room to dry.
- Cleaned the kitchen a thousand times.
- Reorganised the kitchen drawers.
- Redecorated my room.
- Sown a button on my pants.
- Sown Henry’s shirt (no matter they call me Mum!)
- Tidied up every room.
- Cleaned the toilet and the shower.
- Fixed the air conditioner (then broke it again).+
- Shoed away 100,000,000,000,000,000 flies.
- And most importantly, I have filmed a video of a tour of the house which is below this post.
I have also had time to sit on the couch and watch chick flicks while the boys were at Anthony’s playing FIFA, watch a scary movie at the Parish house (which was beyond pathetic), drown myself in aeroguard ten times, come second and then last in Buzz, have a forty minute conversation with Jess Glover on Skype while cleaning the kitchen, write an article for the Delegram, enjoy red wine at the Parish house (because that’s the only place it is legal in a dry community), call home and answer the phone from home many times, help Brother Rick build a chair only to discern there were missing pieces and update both of my journals, all of this after I got up at 10.30am! Is that super talented or what?!
The problem is that while the boys are amazing at helping me clean, they don’t see the dirty stuff. When I told Alejandro that I was vacuuming, he said ‘why? It’s just going to get dirty again!’ Ah, you can so tell that I live with two teenage men. Oh well, by the end of the year they will be domestic gods! On the up side, they are amazing cooks!
We did have an amazing weekend planned. We were tossing up whether to go to the water hole both days or go camping at the dam. But then it rained, and rained and rained so we made our own fun. And it’s been a great weekend! But I wish it would stop raining long enough to get out to the water hole; we’re all super SUPER keen!
So enjoy the video and I hope you don’t get too sick by my camera work.
Love your video Steph. I read with amazement all the things you have been busy with this weekend and my question to you would be this...WHY OH WHY has it taken so long for you to become “domesticated? You have even done some sewing; at least I think you have but your spelling is atrocious and if you have sown then is spelt sewn. However I think your parents, you know - Dad and me, have sown the seed for your domestication even if it has taken 18 years for it to come to fruition. I love your home in Balgo and Henry’s room is just a reminder of your room here in High Wycombe in the “old days.” You know, a month ago before you left for Balgo. Love you Stephanie and miss you very much.
ReplyDeleteHaha thanks mum. I totally get what it's like to be the matriach of the house now. Sorry about the spelling, i will fix it up tomorrow. Annoying thing is i changed it before but.it obviously changed back. Henry is plotting his revenge so im really not looking forward to that, but it's fair and it was very worth it haha.lots of love ily xox
