Remember the Days of the Old Schoolyard?

When one gets to play with playdough every day, stand by the pool for an hour showing kids how to swim and serve icy-poles every afternoon, they can get pretty caught up in how fun their job actually is. That's the thing I love about Luurnpa. Sure, it's a school, but we have so much fun here! The kids have such a good relationship with the teachers and the class is like a family, one that I have become apart of now the kids know I'm actually staying for longer than two weeks. Today, for some unknown reason they were all really nice and warm towards me like they are with their teachers and it was something extra special. We danced away in Primary C, learnt about Noah's Ark and then coloured in pictures, played musical chairs and watched the storm coming in when school had ended. Pretty sweet deal!

I love some of the things the kids come out with. Antonio, a student in my Primary C class is obsessed with backflips and when were trying to come up with rules to abide by during Lent, he came up with 'No backflips in the classroom'. Sure, it's a given anyway but he still does it. So we're all watching Antonio very carefully to make sure he only does backflips out in the playground.

Another of my students, Kion went to La Salle to board for a bit and was hoping to be back later on this year. He still wears his La Salle sport shorts under his normal shorts because he misses it so much and always talks to me about all the cool teachers there and the great stuff he got to do. Today he came running up to me with a letter from the College saying he is one step closer to going back! The smile on his face was a mile wide and I gave him the biggest hug. For the rest of the day, he was as good as gold, keen on achieving his goal. I'll miss him! But it's great being a link between the two schools. A few of the former boarding kids have recognised me and it's a great way for them to understand the La Sallian relationship between the schools.
